Aldi's Christmas 2020 advert has launched and everyone's asking the same question
Promotional videos for the likes of Marks & Spencer, Coca Cola and of course John Lewis have become almost as much a part of the festive season as the shows they punctuate, with hundreds of thousands of pounds being spent creating the most eye-catching and tear-jerking stories.
One of the first to drop this year has been Aldi’s, or at least the initial instalment in what looks set to be another gripping addition to the story of children’s favourite Kevin the Carrot and his chums.

Hide AdThe new 40-second teaser, which premiered on Sunday, November 1, is a pastiche of Top Gun, with Kevin standing in for Maverick, famously played by Tom Cruise in the hit film, and Lieutenant Turkey fittingly taking the place of Goose.
The pair are seen soaring above a snowy mountain range, with Kevin saying ‘brace yourself Turkey’ before flipping the jet upside down so his friend can take a snap of Santa and his reindeer passing below.
Turkey then says ‘I’m roasting, I’ll open a window’ and proceeds to press the ‘eject’ button, sending Kevin flying from his seat.
The advert ends with the loveable vegetable shouting for help as he falls to earth with his parachute in flames, accompanied by the hashtag #WhereIsKevin as we wait to learn his fate.

Hide AdIt has gone down a treat with viewers so far, generating more than 8,000 likes, shares and comments after being posted on Aldi's Facebook page, with many describing it as just the tonic the nation needs.
Lynsey Priestly called it ‘absolutely brilliant’, adding ‘what a way to cheer up the nation’, while Sara Faulkner said ‘it isn’t Christmas without Kevin now’.
Jeanette Turner commented: “Brilliant come on Kevin hurry up and get on the telly and bring smiles to us all long live Kevin.”
And Josie Knights wrote: “Feature film needed so we can all have a laugh, get away from the doom and gloom!”

Hide AdMost minds – especially those of parents – were focused on whether cuddly Kevin toys will be available in stores this year and if there will be a Turkey toy too.
Amanda Dolan wrote: “I can’t wait to stay up all night trying to get my next set of Kevin and co. Have every single other Kevin and family that you’ve sold so far, including kilted Kevin.”
And Debbie Green asked: “Will Kevin and the 2020 gang be in store this year? If so how are you going to do this there are always huge queues and mayhem to get them which wouldn't be safe.”
But the last word should go to Kirsty Jane Macbeth, who was less than impressed with the attention to detail.

The full advert is due out later this month and, regarding the toys, Aldi has advised people to ‘keep your eyes peeled’.
