Fire crews rescue otter trapped in pipe at Derbyshire sewage treatment centre

Fire crews were deployed to an unusual job yesterday – with an otter becoming trapped at a Derbyshire sewage treatment centre.

On Tuesday, August 2, crews from Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service were called to assist the RSPCA with an incident in Milford.

An otter had become trapped in a connecting pipe between two overflow pools at a sewage treatment works.

A DFRS spokesperson said that after the “clever use of cat carriers, a long stick and a bit of persuasion”, they were able to free the otter.
